Do you need planning permission to install an awning?
In most cases, residential awnings will not require planning permission, however, there are always exceptions. In these cases, where the council has a duty to preserve the original look of a home or area, extra planning permission may be required for a new awning. This may also apply to strata’s where permission may need to be sought from the Strata Committee as awnings will “modify the look of the common property.”
