How do Pivot Arm Awnings work?
They are fitted externally around a window frame and consist of a retractable blind made from canvas, acrylic canvas or mesh fabric. This attaches to a frame with arms that pivot half-way down the window. They are suitable for windows that face any direction and the way they work is rather ingenious.
Do you need planning permission for an awning?

In most cases, residential awnings will not require planning permission, however, there are always exceptions.

In these cases, where the council or a strata has a duty to preserve the original look of a home or area, extra planning permission may be required for a new awning.

How much wind can a Retractable Awning withstand?

Awnings can withstand mild weather however you should always retract awnings on windy days. Awnings have been tested in wind-tunnel tests that have shown they can withstand wind forces of over 50 miles per hour however it is best to stay on the side of caution and retract the awnings at the sign of extreme weather.

How long do awnings last?

Canvas is the most popular material for awnings and typically lasts for about 8 to 10 years when maintained properly. Vinyl is less resilient, so the lifespan of this material is shorter at about 5 to 7 years. Acrylic is a more durable woven fabric. This reliable option can last about 8 to 12 years.
